THE CL-150 TECHNOLOGY MATRIX FOR CRITICAL LANGUAGES ™

The CL-150 Technology Matrix for Critical Languages is an economical, long-term and technologically robust solution to US Government need for ubiquitous, multi-platform, multi-language technology and content to support language learning and enhancement.

The CL-150 contains an extensive suite of software applications and content specifically targeted to military, intelligence, and other specialized government purposes and is used by a growing number of US Government organizations. The CL-150 makes technology and content continually available to all of an organization’s personnel as needed -- without delay, administrative burden or incremental cost.

The CL-150 is designed to support:

  • All languages determined by any USG organization to be of national security interest
  • All domains
  • All proficiency levels, to the extent that computer infrastructure is appropriate to supporting aspects of language learning or sustainment at that level
  • All learning regimens: Classroom, Distance Learning, Remote Mentoring, and Self-Study
  • All hardware platforms, including laptops, desktops, Web, PDA, iPod, etc., as they come into widespread use by Government personnel

Under Government guidance, new capabilities, content, languages, domains, and platforms are constantly being added to the CL-150 in two ways:

  1. Regular Upgrades and Updates:
A permanent CL-150 development team constantly extends and upgrades the technical functionality of CL-150 software. Projects are chosen based on guidance from user organizations.
  2. Commissioned Content Deliverables:
Government organizations may commission new CL-150 content deliverables targeted specifically to their needs, including
    • Communicate To Learn systems for specialized domain learning
    • Tactical Language Kits for rapid initial language acquisition and culture introduction
    • Web-delivered language assessments
    • Declarative Modular Constructs

Regular Upgrades and Updates are delivered to CL-150 licensees at no charge as part of a standard annual subscription, whereas Commissioned Content Deliverables are purchased separately.

A core goal of the CL-150 is to leverage the efforts of each participating organization to the benefit of all. To the extent possible, and to the extent permitted by the commissioning organization, once Commissioned Content Deliverables have been delivered to the commissioning organization, they are made available to all CL-150 Community Licensed Organizations via the CL-150 Download Center.
